About the album

Four Aces Guitar Quartet combines classical masterpieces and arrangements of traditional folk and pop music. If previous album Odyssee was the story of a five year journey as an ensemble, then For Aces not only continues that journey, but it chooses a new adventurous path with compositions especially written for this cd. The composers with whom the quartet collaborated are Clarice Assad, Adam Clarke, Nuccio D'Angelo, Nejc Kuhar, Patrick Roux, Harry Sacksioni, Alain Selhorst and Johannes Möller.

Four Aces Guitar Quartet

For many years now, the Four Aces Guitar Quartet has stood for four men, four guitars and all that entails. Whether playing in America, Asia or Europe, time and again these four gentlemen show what the magical combination of at least 24 strings can bring about. The Four Aces Guitar Quartet was formed in 2008 when four guitarists met at the International Guitar Symposium in Iserlohn. Their first ever concert was part of a graduation project. Audiences and judges were immediately impressed by the foursome's bold programme, great virtuosity and rich musical palette. Since its debut, the Four Aces Guitar Quartet has given performances in the country's major venues such as Flagey, Bozar, the Concertgebouw Brugge, deSingel and numerous cultural centres. Abroad,...

Johannes Möller

The Swedish guitarist and composer Johannes Möller has captivated audiences throughout the world with charismatic and soulful performances. At the age of 12 as a self-taught composer Johannes experienced an outburst of creativity that resulted in a large quantity of mainly chamber music works for various instrumentations. A selection of these works was recorded on an album with some of the top instrumentalists in Sweden when he was 14 years old. A critic from the Swedish newspaper Göteborgsposten wrote about these compositions, ”What is to become of Johannes Möller? A Swedish Mozart – in our time?”  In his later teenage years, Johannes continued composing experimenting with various compositional styles and techniques. It was however not until he composed his piece When the Winds Dissolve for alto flute and guitar in 2006 that he found his personal voice. The world premiere of this composition took place during the Iserlohn International Guitar Symposium. It was received with such enthusiasm from colleges and students alike that he decided to dedicate himself to mainly compose music for the guitar.
