Speed of Light in Slow Motion ist das Debütalbum des Matthieu Michel Trio. Es vereint den Trompeter Matthieu Michel, den Kontrabassisten Patrice Moret sowie den Schlagzeuger und Elektronikmusiker Christophe Calpini; Blaise Caillet ergänzt das Ensemble an der Elektronik. Die Musik bewegt sich fließend zwischen akustischer Improvisation und elektronischem Klang und wird von Raum, Textur, Stille und subtilen Veränderungen geprägt. Melodien entstehen und lösen sich wieder auf, Rhythmen verschieben sich beinahe unmerklich, und elektronische Elemente werden Teil einer sich ständig wandelnden Klanglandschaft.
Im Zentrum des Albums steht eine faszinierende Spannung zwischen Bewegung und Stillstand, Struktur und Freiheit. Matthieu Michels lyrische Trompete bewegt sich zwischen Zerbrechlichkeit und Intensität, Patrice Morets Kontrabass sorgt für Tiefe und Balance, während Christophe Calpinis Schlagzeug und Live-Elektronik die akustische und die elektronische Klangwelt miteinander verbinden. Die Musik entwickelte sich aus elektronischen Instrumentalstücken von Blaise Caillet und Calpini und schafft einen Rahmen, in dem Komposition und spontane Interaktion einander fortwährend neu formen. Das Ergebnis ist eine atmosphärische und fein ausbalancierte Aufnahme, in der alles in Bewegung bleibt – selbst dann, wenn die Zeit stillzustehen scheint.

Started to play the trumpet at the age of 6. Later on, around 18th, he had some private study’s with Americo Bellotto.
Matthieu has been touring around 40 different countries and his work has been documented on over 350 recordings.
Some of his recordings include «Blue Light», first record released at the time he was leaving in Berlin. «Yves» by MM 5tet, «Estate» with Richard Galliano, «Benji» and «Whispers» with Jean-Christophe Cholet, «Okipik» and «The Sadness of Yuki» duo recordings with Uli Scherer and the celebrated release with the actual band «Live at Theatre Oriental» with his actual 4Tet.
