About the album

Founded in 2015, Second Wind Quintet is an instrumental group of talented Finnish musicians led by guitarist and composer Tommi Tampio. The group based in Helsinki, lined up with double bass (Juuso Rinta), drums (Ilkka Oksanen), piano (Aapo Wikstén), saxophone (Kasper Haikonen) and guitar (Tommi Tampio), combines elements from modern jazz, folk and cinematic music without worrying about crossing genres. The group members’ different musical backgrounds provide interesting conditions for colourful improvisation and interaction. Tampio’s compositions are largely influenced by the music of Brian Blade Fellowship and Pat Metheny, amongst others.

Das im Frühjahr 2015 gegründete Zweite Bläserquintett ist eine Jazzgruppe, die von dem Gitarristen und Komponisten Tommi Tampio geleitet wird. Die Gruppe kombiniert Klänge aus Modern Jazz und Fusion, ohne sich um Genreüberschneidungen zu kümmern. Die unterschiedlichen musikalischen Hintergründe der Mitglieder der Gruppe bieten hervorragende Voraussetzungen für farbenfrohe Improvisation und Interaktion. Die Kompositionen von Tampio sind weitgehend von der Musik von Brian Blade Fellowship und Pat Metheny u.a. beeinflusst.

Due to the tasteful compositions and the refined playing, the album has an unimpressive quality which makes Second Wind Quintet all the more impressive. This is an album that you have to set up a few times to do justice. Great how Second Wind Quintet immediately sounds so matured on his debut album.
