About the album

Musicweb (UK): The audio sources for these inscriptions have been very well preserved and the resultant sound quality compares favourably with a commercial studio recording of that period. This is a first CD release. I hope that more recordings of this wonderful violinist surface in the future. She deserves to be heard.
ALFRED HOFFMAN

Cornelia Vasile (violin)

Romanian violinist (1947-2010) born in Timisoara. Pupil of Ivry Gitlis for few months in Salzburg and Paris, 1969-70. In 1973 she is said to have made a suicide attempt after she had not come in a competition (Premio Paganini, Genoa) to the final. Rumors of a completed suicide are wrong. Later, a certain stabilization seems to have occurred - Cornelia Vasile was (it will probably have been about from the early 80s) concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra Graunke in Munich (Symphonie-Orchester Graunke - today Munich Symphony Orchestra). In 1969 she recorded Paganini's 24 Caprices (Electrecord, Romania)

Niccolò Paganini

The legendary violinist Niccolò Paganini was born on October 27th in Genoa. With his groundbreaking techniques and magical stage appearance he shocked the traditional concert life. Paganini's performance marks the emancipation of virtuosity. Especially the transcendental aspect of this virtuosity fit seamlessly with the romantic ideals of Faustian possesion and unrestrained expression. His Caprices op. 1 are the bible for violin performance, just like Chopin's Etudes op. 10 & 25
