About the album

Reflections Op. 28: Mallorca preludes marks the debut album of classical concert pianist Eglė Andrejevaitė. The Charterhouse of Valldemossa was the perfect sanctuary for an artist like Chopin, embodying the Romantic spirit musically, where he could draw inspiration and unleash his tumultuous creativity. These intense emotions sparked one of the most creative and passionate periods in the artist’s musical output. Therefore, in 2016, the Chopin Festival of Valldemossa commissioned 24 esteemed contemporary Spanish composers to create responses to Chopin’s 24 preludes, assigning each composer one of Chopin’s preludes as a reference. The musical brilliance of the Polish artist and the genius loci of the island of Mallorca served as invaluable and singular sources of inspiration for a new generation of composers. The strength of this recording project lies in reconnecting the essence of these “sublime” and intense inspirations within the contemporary context. For the first time, it gathers in a single album of Preludes Op. 28 by the eminent Polish composer, alongside 12 corresponding works created by selected contemporary Spanish composers. The goal was to foster a rigorous comparison between historical inspiration and modern creativity, presented to an eager and curious audience keen to explore innovative and stimulating musical pathways.
